Spessartite was first discovered in the German Spessart Mountains. Since so little of this rare gem was found that it was largely reserved for collectors. Many years later another source was discovered along the Kunene River between Angola and Namibia. Thereafter it was also discovered in Nigeria which helped bring a small supply to the market. Soon it was also mined in Sri Lanka and Brazil. In modern day, it is also referred to as "Mandarin Garnet". Supplies of gem-quality Spessartite still remain limited. Its major sources are Australia, Brazil, Burma, India, Israel, Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and the USA.
AAA = Eye Clean, Medium to Dark Orange, Good Cut.
